I wanted to share this great interview I recorded this week with one of my favorite writers, Jonathan Taplin. Jonathan Taplin is a writer, producer, and Director Emeritus of the Annenberg Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California. He's had an amazing career as outlined in his book
The conversation about technoutopianism reminds me of the time I was chatting on the sidewalk at SXSW with an extremely well-known early adopter of social who has a huge following in the tech, business, and marketing worlds. He made some comment about how "everyone has an iPhone" and I responded that a lot of people can't afford them. He was shocked (our mutual friend, who was the reason I'd stopped to talk to them was rather amused at that reaction). I was like, "They're expensive. A lot of people can't afford to spend $800 on a phone." It had absolutely never occurred to him that there could be people who can't afford technology.
